  Officer of the Day

         camp josepho neckerchief

Yellow cotton, FULL SQUARE. National issue.
These yellow neckerchiefs were the official Camp Staff neckerchiefs worn at Camp Josepho between 1941-48.
They were also used at Emerald Bay between 1946-49
This example has a label for Josepho staff man Dan Devor.
Labeling uniform parts and camp clothing was a common practice throughout the 1940's-60's.
Yellow staff neckerchiefs were documented for posterity
in 1943 on panel no. 4 of the Tess Razalle Carter murals
adorning the stage in the Camp Josepho lodge.

Dark yellow felt letters & dark blue felt inner border
sewn to white silk.
This neckerchief was worn by the Camp Josepho staff member assigned each day during camping season to greet troops, provide information and answer questions. The position of "Officer of the Day" is documented in the 1944 Camp Josepho film and the neckerchief can be seen in some of the footage.
The neckerchief's construction of felt block letters & border sewn to material is very similar to the 1943-48 KP armband. Like the KP armband, the OD neckerchief was worn only by the person filling the position each day; to be returned and worn by a different person the next day.
